My medical card expired — the 60-day downgrade fuse

The $49 Medical Card Kit — $49, one-time payment

The checker reads your verdict. The Kit gets you through the exam: documentation packets for your condition, the two 45-day form clocks run as a calendar, the official medication form packet, waiting-period calendars, failure recovery, and the examiner phone script.

What the federal text says

There is no federal grace period: with an expired or missing medical certificate, a driver may not operate a commercial motor vehicle. Federal rules require the state to downgrade the CDL when the medical status lapses (49 CFR 383.73 sets the outer frame at 60 days; some states act much sooner, in as little as about 10 days). Restoring the card and re-certifying with the state is what stops or reverses the downgrade.

What that means for you

An expired card is an income stop with a fuse on your license itself. The renewal date on your current card is the most important date in your working year — treat it like one.

What moves the outcome

Renew before expiry — examiners can certify a renewal exam at any time, and a card renewed early simply starts its term. If you have already lapsed, your state's restoration window and process govern; the second-chance page walks the sequence.

Which mode is this?

This question is decided by the federal text itself. The verdict above is computed from the cited words — your examiner is bound by the same text.

Only a certified medical examiner on the National Registry can certify you. FreightVerdict reads the published federal standards — it does not certify, diagnose, or treat, and nothing here is medical advice.
